Cucumbers shrivelling up

Hi,

I have 3 indoor cucumber plants in the conservatory. Started very well but now new cucumbers are drying out when less than 5 cms long. Yes, they have those dreaded brown spots on the leaves. Is this the cause? Any remedy?

Picture on left - cues are about 25 cms  - on the right -  dying at 2 cms.

Thanks for any advice.

 Squirrel.

I suspect spider mite damage, judging by those leaves.  They can be controlled by a natural predator, see here:

Other suppliers are available of course.  They are expensive but you'll find nothing else really works and even the predators will not resurrect plants damaged by a heavy infestation.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Thanks, BobTheGardener,

Much to absorb here and will get organised for next year. Not expensive if I can get 30 cues off!

Just an idea - I've got my cucumbers in large pots outside - no problem with spider mites out there - they get sun from sun up util about 2 ish and are doing just fine.

Oh bother, I was trying to upload the pic from my phone, and I've got network problems.  Sorry. image

  • Brilliant idea. I will put them out with the doves next year. I don't think they will recover this year. Each new tiny cue just dries up.

    Thanks for good help.
