My ex hubby was ok actually - he didn't do any DIY so the toolbox was always mine. Same with the garden - he didn't do that either!
I have to say - if I'd been your mum, Anne, I'd have cut all the edges of the path too....
Just a little thought - if you like a natural look, and hate the path edge, you could take a little more of the grass edge away there and plant thyme to soften the edges of the path
