Cabbage Palm dying?

Hi, I hope someone can help. I moved into a property last year and inherited a lovely cabbage palm that birds flock to a plenty. Last year it was blooming, lovely smelling blossom, lots of green leaves, this year it looks like it's dying.

My question is, is this normal for a tree to take a 'year out'? Should I cut the dead branches and keep those that are trying to keep their last few green leaves on? There are 10 or so branches, only one or two still have one or two green leaves.

The garden got a little waterlogged last year due to all the rain but I wouldn't have though that would kills a healthy tree.

Please help, many thanks!

Dear oh dear that does look sad. Has it been exceptionally dry or windy where you are?

That doesn't look good.  Cordylines really do need well-drained soil and we have had a much wetter year than usual with few chances for the soil to dry out - to be honest I'm not that hopeful for that tree's future image

Is there something I can do to at least give it a chance? Would cutting it back to the minimal branches help?

    thanks.

Brian, Cordylines often produce new shoots after being cut right back so I would give it a go. As it looks now its very poorly and it will either throw some shoots or not, so I think its a risk thats worth taking.
