The difference

VerdunVerdun Posts: 23,348

thought I would show the difference between Wild Swan and Ruffled Swan

this is Ruffled Swan......more petals and less defined.  First summer for this one here but lots of buds coming and it also looks to be taller.  The same blue reverse although it looks slightly more pink than on Wild Swan

the second pic is Wild Swan

for me enough of a difference to grow both

A small difference can be seen on the photos

So Ruffled Swan is like a semi-double variety? I have Honorine Jobert and Konigin Charlotte in my garden - bees love them. I think Honorine is far better behaved than Charlotte!

Ladybird - I grow 'Whirlwind' which is a semi double. It's very happy in my cruddy, wet soil and isn't invasive here. Slightly shorter than some of the others too, at about two and a half feet.

That may be down to conditions though, as I don't find Honorine invasive either  image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Thanks for that FG. I do really love them despite Charlotte being a thug. She's spread around a bit and this year is taller than me i.e. more than 5 feet. Think I'll have to be a wee bit ruthless next Spring before they show up again.

After I got over the shock of a 4 year slash and burn programme looming before me I have looked Verdun,  and how beautiful they are too. I particularly like the gorgeous bluey-lilac backs to the petals. Might have to have one image
