imageThis is my Salix , Around 12 years old. Always beautiful until this year . Came home from holiday to find it in this condition ,

Can you suggest a cause.

  • I suspect drought. Little else affects willows.  Has some work gone on nearby where a root has been cut?

  • No work gone on nearby.

This is only tree showing symptoms,  including established Beech adjacent and another Salix 3 M away. The  branches look black.

    Thanks for your interest

    which salix is it?

as well as the white marks that Hazel mentions, some areas of the trunk look very dark. Is this wet or a light effect or are they a different colour?

That doesn't look good, trees drop leaves in times of stress but clinging onto the dead ones isn't a good sign. Have you had drought? It's been very wet here up to the last month and nothing that's been in place for 12 years is suffering from drought.
