Hi - tried a similar thing, exactly the same sort of tank, it was fine for a year or two, frogs took to it of their own accord, pondweed and kingcups flourished, but now the water appears to gave gone brown, lots of deposits of nasty looking brown crumbly stuff on plants and the inside seems to have gone rusty. We've emptied it out now - what can we do next? Should we paint the inside - if so, what with? any help appreciated...

Perhaps with a thick pond sealant?

  • On the subject of metal bathtub ponds. Twice my rain water filled small pond has a red deposit around the edge and the 2 oxygenating plants are dying. Is it the red bricks in the bottom ? The stones and rocks in it also have a red film. What am I doing wrong ? No fish or wildlife in it, I just wanted the birds to bathe and maybe get frogs eventually. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
