Rose problems
Hi...I need help with my roses! I suffer with black spot and spray with Rose Clear throughout the year and this usually keeps it at bay although this year is more troublesome!
What I've noticed now though are rolled up leaves containing little green caterpillars...rose leaf rolling saw fly? I read up on them and it says contact insecticide has limited success so use systemic - which I do with Rose Clear. So why hasn't the Rose Clear kept the roses protected and if I use another systemic insecticide can I still use Rose Clear, I really need a fungicide with the black spot problem! Do you see my dilemma!?
Any help gratefully accepted.

The little caterpillars will get knocked off with a fine strong jet of water (support the foliage as you do so to prevent damage). The black spot and downy mildew will be at their worst in the current humid conditions, so keep the roses well fed and watered so they can grow fast through the fungal diseases and pick off the affected leaves. I don't advocate the use of sprays, but I accept people do use them, so a preventative 2 weekly dose can be applied, in dry conditions, in the morning before the hot sun hits the leaves. Unfortunately, sprays available to amateurs just aren't strong enough to be fully effective.

Heather I have the same problem with the leaf rolling sawfly. Try and squish every one you can find because I now have a major infestation in my garden. They are on almost every single plant in the garden and they have eaten through everything even new buds emerging. I am out there every single day trying to squish as many as i can but the very next day there are more!
I hope you can keep on top of them.
