Lawn reshaping

Hi All,
My front lawn is on a slope, has hump in it and has two stupid triangles instead of a straight edge. All this makes it a nightmare to mow as the lawnmower bottoms out and falls into the flowerbed (taking me with it) and generally carries on.
I wish to cut the two stupid triangles off but what should I do with the turf?
Can I simply turn it over into the newly widened beds. I don't want to do all the "leave it to one side to break down" malarkey as I have nowhere to leave it/can't be bothered.
I won't be planting into the beds straight away so if I left it till next year would that be long enough for it to die off? And speaking of which...do I need to kill it first?
Thanks
PP

Id go along with Philippa, you can spray off the area with "roundup" then turn it over once it's died back, a green aproach is to cover the area with plastic or carpet and let it die back, or lift and stack turf to turf.
Thanks all.
I've had another look and it's quite a large area. I think I'll do the worst bit first in case I run out of steam.
30cm?...a foot??...have you seen my arms???
and it's like digging bedrock. I'll be lucky to get the turf off.
I'd forgotten about the plastic.
Thanks for the suggestions.
