Drooping Lavender

I was given as a present about 4 weeks ago 2 standard lavender plants which were placed into good sized pots (about 1 foot square. One is absolutely fine the other is badly wilting and going brown on the base.
Can anyone give any suggestions about how I can look after this sickly plant?

sounds like too much or too little water, they like to totally dry out between watering's (they are from the Mediterranean) but you do have water them occasionally, particularly in warm or windy weather.
