New Patio Mistake

We have had a new patio put in with retaining walls and a pergola. It looks nice. However we went against their advice and requested butt jointing on the patio slabs. We have sawn riven limestone.

There are gaps and it isn't a perfect even surface as the stones are hand sawn. I now see that weeds will grow there and reading online the stone is likely to crack or split or slip.

Is it just a matter of seeing what will happen? Is it an expensive big mistake?

If the slabs have been properly bedded in sand, I can't see why they would crack or split. If weeds grow, zap them with weedkiller: this is one of the occasions when it is the best tool for the job.

Or you could grow creeping thyme in any gaps, it looks lovely.

Is there any reason why you can't brush a dry mix in between? No weed seeds then.

I can't see why the paving would crack if it's been properly laid. What was the reason given for that?

Don't panic too much at this stage May - there will be a simple solution I'm sure image
