Crocosmia, it can be a bit of a thug, think carefully before you plant it in your garden.
I've been digging it out of the borders for the past few years but it still pops up every summer. I kept a clump but put it in a pot to keep under control.
It's very easy to transplant, just dig up a clump, it grows from little corms and these sometimes drop off and get left behind (that's why it's hard to clear).
PS. The black bugs look like aphids. I squish them off by hand or you can blast them off with a strong burst of water from your hose. No need for chemicals.
Thank-you, Kitty 2! I did wonder if this was a weed-type plant but just with pretty flowers as it's all I seem to have unveiled at the allotment so far! Its an overgrown mess with them spiky weeds that are meters long growing over, under and around everything !
I may just leave the plant where it is and bring the cut flowers home for a vase, they're very lovely and bright!
I definately don't want the whole plant, it's huge! But it wouldn't matter if the plant was slightly broken whilr I dug a section up to re-pot?
Ahhh, the green aphids loved my rose plant for a while but the spray seems to have killed them off thankfully!
You'll do no harm to the main clump by digging out a chunk (it's pretty indestructible for me).
If you want one for home consider getting some "crocosmia Lucifer". It doesn't spread like the common orange one.
I got this bit from a lady around the corner last year. She likes a nosey in my front garden when she's walking her dogs and spotted me digging out more of the orange ones, she kindly offered me a bit and it's coming along nicely.

I found the plant in my allotment, as you can see, its quite latge but has lots of buds just waiting to bloom!
Would I be able to dig up some of the plant to replant in my garden at home? Or would it be possible to take a cutting to grow on?

Also, pic at the top shows the few buds that have flowered so far, have tiny black insects covering them, will rose gun clear kill these off?
