Can I tag another question onto this thread please?
Years ago my mum (helpfully) scattered some seed to help me to fill the gaps in my new garden, she said they were "California poppies" and I have been weeding them out for the past 18 years.
The chat of welsh poppies on this thread and others has got me thinking about the ID of mine.
Here's one I missed, it's at the side of the house behind a stack of garden chairs
In my limited experience of Californian and Welsh poppies, that looks Welsh to me. Californian are more orangey yellow with blue-green leaves. The Californian also have long pointy seedheads, if I remember correctly.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
