Hydroponics

Has anyone given the above Hydroponics system a go?
It particularly grabbed my attention as I like to start off bedding from seed on the window sills in the spring. But I often end up with leggy seedlings that lean over due to lack of light.
Would this be a viable way of avoiding that problem? Or are there cheaper effective ways of accomplishing it with a lamp?

Years ago - following advice from Geoff Hamilton - I tried this (until I got my first greenhouse). Take a cardboard box of any convenient size to fit near a window and remove one of the 'front' walls usually one of the longest sides leaving a slight lip at the bottom of about 5cm, so that you have a sort of three sided little room. Line the three interior walls with auminium foil. Sit your seed trays/pots inside the box and place near the window. The foil has the effect of bouncing light onto the seedlings from all directions so that they do not grow as straggly. It did work and cost next to nothing but if you are going for the grand scale planting it is probably a bit too primitive.
