  • Why do I feel queasy?

Hate slugs, had no idea you could put dead ones on the compost heap.

Perhaps I can inlist my husband to do slug murder.

Hmm, maybe. Don't put them in the compost if you have a sensitive stomach. Wear some marigolds, put the slugs in a bucket with a few inches of strong salt solution in it and tip the lot down the drain. Gardeners have to be brave and tough, you know....

No-one has ever described me as a delicate flower beforeimage.    TY aym?.  I quite like to see a dead slug.  I just couldn't use scissorsimage.

I think the split second snip with the scissors is the least cruel treatment, and the remains are perfectly safe for other things to eat.

I have no idea about the nervous system of slugs, but the whole slug salt bath seems vile. I've seen them squirm about for hours.

That's my problem aymimage.   As a youngster I rode my bike over a slug and half of it flew up and stuck to my bare leg.  I've never been able to look one in the eye since.imageimage

  • My husband tends to sling them on top of my studio/shed working on the theory they don't like heights!

Hosta, if there is any squirming at all, there isn't enough salt. It may be more humane to snip them, I don't know, I don't think I could do it. I popped out for half an hour this evening and counted just under 300 as I put them in my bucket. I wouldn't fancy 600 pieces on the grass next day, either.
