Calla Lilies - Zantedeschia

ERICS MUMERICS MUM Posts: 627

i bought one for the first time about 4 weeks ago with several yellow flowers opening.   They have more or less finished now and I'm cutting them off at the base of the flower stalk.

can I expect any more blooms or is that it for the year ? Would feeding them with trusty tomato food stimulate more flowers ?

if that's my lot for 2016 how should I keep it for the rest of the summer ? Will the leaves start to turn yellow and whither like spring bulbs do.

can I over winter it in the garage, frost free but no natural light ?

sorry about the long winded question !

Your tender Zantedeschia will need to be kept growing until the leaves turn yellow, then you can either remove the rhizome from its pot and store it - similar to a Dahlia tuber - in a dry medium in a frost free place. Alternatively just move the complete pot with the rhizome left in place into a frost free greenhouse to overwinter.

Thank you, I will move it with its pot, and make sure the compost is dry.  It wasn't expensive but I do love seeing 'last year's plants' putting up new shoots next spring.
