I did have one of those bell shaped metal cages that certainly kept the squirrels out but to my horror one morning I saw what I thought was a squirrel inside the cage but it turned out to be a rat! It soon scarpered when I chased it but the ease at which it squeezed through the bars made me get rid of that one. I do have to say that the feeders I have now seem to be quite safe - simply because they have rounded domes for lids which the squirrels and rats cannot get a grip on. They are Tom Chambers make.
