Pumpkins

Growing Pumpkins for the first time, sanct martin and big max, promised the grandkids I would give them a go, got the male flowers, yes says they come first, then get the female flowers with the little baby pumpkins, and they drop off!  Had a look on-line, its says when the female is about the size of a golf ball the flower will open ready for you to pollenate with the male flower, THEN it says reason for female flowers and fruit dropping off, BECAUSE THEY HAVENT BEEN POLLENATED, any help urgently required, thanks!

  • Frustrating, isn't it. Like dealing with computers!  Be patient and keep up adequate, but not too much water. Don't feed until fruits have started growing, then you can go to town.  Often, if it's too hot, the female flowers will abort.  The plant will sort itself out and there's plenty of time..

Don't forget to eat the male flowers once they have done their "duty"! They are delicious!

Yes, but first stuff them with cream cheese with chives or basil and garlic and fry them gently in butter. Or you an make a light batter and dip them before frying without any stuffing! ?
