like a few more people on site where saying that birda eating all blossom and buds it knocked it back no it seems that the bottom side shoots are growing like mad and to be truefull it is a good nice bush both sides (question should I cut it right back or let it grow out and fruit )and cut it back and shape it back when dormant in winter ( iknow there is some good fruit men out there ) any ideas thanks Michael

michael, you need to be careful that those 'bottom side shoots' are not coming from the stock the two plums have been grafted on to and from your description of the rapid growth I suspect that may be whats happening. If you could post a picture it would help us to identify any problems.
If they are at the bottom of the main stem, they are from the rootstock and should be removed. Higher up, just remove any that are crossing or rubbing any shoots. Do it soon or leave it until next June or you risk silverleaf disease.
hi to ladybird and figetbones I wish I was able to do pictures but not clever enough I keep asking g/son but he is like a steam train to blinking fast for me even his slow speed I will take both idears and have a good luck thanks again Michael
hi ladybird I have looked at the root stock stem and 2 thin side branches are coming up from the bottom main stem .. and not where the 2 types of plum are so should I cut them off and seal with tar paint any advice please as I don't want to loose it michael
