Greens just won't grow for me!!
in Fruit & veg
Every year I try and grow cabbage and broccoli and this year have added cauliflower .... they never grow!! This is as far as I ever get....
what am I doing wrong?
Also, I am trying strawberries this year, but so far have no flowers - the plants are growing well but just leaves. Shouldn't I have fruit by now? All help appreciated.

Vegetables do better in an open bed rather than next to a fence. Maybe they are too shaded.
Do you feed and water them?
Thanks all, yes this is the first year I am trying strawberries and have no idea what type they are - I bought them as little plants from the supermarket. I feed and water everything Logan, but maybe not as much as they need as I am only used to growing in pots. This is my first year trying fruit direct into the ground. I will feed and water them more often. On the subject of strawberries, if they do not produce anything this year, what do I do with them over winter? Thanks again everyone
Mynx, as has been mentioned, brassicas need good rich soil and plenty of light. Dig some well rotted manure into the ground this autumn and when you plant out the young cabbages etc next spring, plant them deep, right up to the bottom leaves and firm them in. They always need more space than you think. Feed with something containing plenty of nitrogen such as nettle feed or chicken manure pellets.
No need to do anything with the strawberries now other than give them a bit of a feed. Next spring when they start growing again, remove all of the old dead leaves, feed them with a bit of fish, blood and bone sprinkled over the soil around them and gently worked in with a hand fork. When they start flowering, feed them with a liquid feed such as tomato feed or seaweed feed.
