Growing garlic

in Fruit & veg
I have grown some garlic on my allotment this year, but unfortunately have suffered rust. I also had rust on my leeks in the allotment last year (grown in different places).
I do like garlic, so I am thinking about just growing it in pots in the back garden next year.
I have two questions - am I okay to dry the rusty garlic in the shed? Does rust only survive in soil, rather than air? I am just concerned that spores might get on tools, pots etc in the shed and contaminate next years crops, or am I being silly?!
Secondly, can I use cloves from this years garlic that I have grown to grow more next year? I have read that the bulbs themselves do not carry the fungus.
Any other relevant advice/tips are much appreciated. Thanks!

the rust spores will get everywhere and infect plants next year, you're best off just buying uncontaminated stock, eating this years bulbs and burning the rest as you don't want to compost it as it'll survive the composting process.
you might want to give all your tools a good wash as well, just to make sure
