From bad to worse

DeeWestDeeWest Posts: 39

Hi all,

I posted a few days ago about my fuchsias which had become scorched in the sun.

I have now moved them but they seem to have gone from bad to worse and dont seem to look any better despite watering lots. Do plants make a comeback from being scorched? They were new plug plants from the garden centre this year.

Thank you ever so much.

Are they perennial fushsias? If you have moved them as they are coming in to flower then this will effect the plants performance. It is not the right time to move this plant if it is a perennial type. I would give it a good tomato feed and hope it bounds back. Keep it well watered aswell

Whatever happens to your fuchsias, try keeing them in semi shade next year as they don't like being in hot sunshine for hours on end.

I think all fuchsias are perennial

If there's any green left they might survive. Cut off the dead, keep them moist but don't drown them. Don't feed them until they're growing and can use the feed

Hi Steve, oh dear I thought all fuchsias were perennial. When I say I moved them, I mean I moved the pots they were in. The leaves and flowers still are drooping and looking thin, there are tonnes of buds on it, but they are brown on the side that the sun hit them. I hope that they open up still.

thank you Ceres and nutcutlet - should I cut the buds off too? Oh what a shame. Oh well

All fuchsias are perennials. Lots of wise advice in the various replies. It may be that they are also pot bound. What size pots have you got them in?

They are both in quite large pots for their size, because they were only plug plants this year

I would cut back to the good bits, there's time left for more to be prioduced
