plants for pots

penelope19penelope19 Posts: 27

Just bought three 70cm long by 30cm deep plastic pots to put under my kitchen/bathroom and bedroom windows which look onto a country driveway used by three other houses. What can I  put in them that will good all year round  bearing in mind that that side of my cottage is in the shade during the day and gets the sun in the late evening? There is no garden at that side of the cottage it's just the loaning.

Cheers for any ideas

Hostas look lovely in pots and it also discourages slugs.

You'll need to protect your hostas from the ravages of slugs and snails otherwise you will end up with no plants left. Copper tape is a good deterent.

Heuchera are good in pots providiing you keep an eye out for vine weevil larvae. Planted with grasses they will be colourful all year and don't mind shade. You can put some spring bulbs in the pots to give you some flowers early in the year. Ivy looks great dripping from the front of a planter and you have a wealth of leaf shapes and colours to chose from.
