Unsightly garden
My partner and I have bought my parents house. We are fortunate to have a good sized garden. Unfortunately, my father loved concrete and sheds. Beyond some trellis, we used to have two rotten sheds and a greenhouse surrounded by unsightly concrete. We have taken down the greenhouse and we are in the process of removing the sheds.
Once this is complete, we will be left with some unsightly concrete and we are unsure what to do next. Do we break up the concrete, remove some soil and lay some grass? Can we cover it? If we do, what do we do with that space?
The concrete covers a large space and we would love some ideas about what to do.
Thank you

It rather depends how you want to use the garden. Your Father managed to have an almost maintenance free garden so you need to decide how much time you can spend out there and plan accordingly. Get rid of all the concrete and replace it with lawn and flowerbeds/shrubs and you will have something beautiful to look at but it will take up a lot of your time what with all the dead heading and pruning and mowing etc. If you want a patio and barbeque area, keep some of the concrete and maybe replace it with something nicer looking in the future.......you don't have to do everything at once. You may want to keep some hard standing for future use when you realise that you have caught the gardening bug and need to erect a sizeable greenhouse plus storage facility for all the equipment you will acquire.
It looks like a nice plot with a lot of possibilities. You can grow a lot of things in containers, including fruit and veg, which can cover a lot of the concrete though they will need watering every day in hot weather; it is possible to set up an automatic watering system if time is in short supply.
Have fun.
Hi poppy, looks like your dad loved concret, It looks strong and made to last, so think long and hard before you get the kango hammer out, some areas you could modernize by putting a patio on top or deckinag, then look at what's left and re landscape.
