Ivy Covering Tree Trunk

The trunk of my Broom tree is covered in Ivy, will this harm the tree and should I remove it?

Hi RG. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by 'Broom tree'. Do you just mean the common broom with the yellow flowers in spring? I would definitely remove the ivy from any plant it is attempting to grow up.

I agree with Ladybird - a broom bush isn't strong enough to support an ivy, and may break under the extra weight.

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

It will weigh it down and put pressure on it's stability. Ivy roots can get very very thick and intrusive.
