What is this flower please?!

linzijayne74linzijayne74 Posts: 198

Hello all.  I watched Gardeners' World on Wednesday and spotted this flower behind Monty.  I've asked on their Facebook page and they kindly suggested it was either a 'single flowered dahlia' or anemone but when I've googled this description, none of them look like the one in this picture.  I apologise for the poor quality photo; I had to take a photo of the paused television to get a shot.  Huge thanks in advance.  :)image

The picture is too blurred to see but I would have a guess that it is a type of bedding dahlia.

If you can tell us at what point it appeared in the programme, then the combined forces of the forum can go on BBCi and try and identify the flower.

Thank you so much for your feedback, Ladybird 4 and Ceres.  Ceres, that's a great idea!  It's at around 26 minutes into the programme, so quite near to the end; Monty is talking about taking Penstemon cuttings.  As he's stood talking to camera, they're behind him in a container and to the bottom(ish) left of the screen as you look at the telly.  Despite my various attempts to identify them I really can't see anything like them and I'm a novice gardener too, which doesn't help :(.  Thanks again for your input.  :)  :)

    Is it dahlia "Roxy"?

Not quite the same as the picture. The petals in the pictures have white tips and the foliage is not so dark as Roxy's.

You have sharper eyes than I, Ladybird4 image

Thanks Alina and Ladybird!  The petals in question and in my (blurred) photo almost don't seem 'joined' as most regular flowers would be; it's as if they're round, individual circles dotted around a large, vivid pink centre, then the yellow in the middle of that.  I've entered all sorts of relative descriptions on the internet and to no avail so far!

Been looking for over an hour... struggling with this! Thought maybe a Dahlia like Bee Happy but looking at the footage the foliage isn't right.

I wonder if Monty reads the forums?? You'll have to "write in" at this rate!

If it is a dahlia, the nearest I can find is "Wishes and Dreams".

A couple of dahlias that it could be are "Bashful" or "Dannevirke".
