A red campion tricked me into thinking I had an exceptionally healthy echinacea a few years back, even remaining green through winter...image

I kept the campion and gave up on the echinaceaimage

Fat Hen is edible--like grain.   Your ancestors pre Roman times ate it.  People eating it in the 20th century.   I have no idea how to prepare though.   Just something I've read.  Also used to fatten hens (hence that name.)

I've nurtured lots of things that turned out to be weeds and I posted on this site about a pernicious weed that turned out to be a potato!! (Good thing I got it identified.  I somehow wound up with them all over the garden.   I know I had put some in the compost but don't know how it got all over.)

    Gardening is an adventure.

imageCompensation from T&M? I think not! lol. Talking of geraniums though, I've just realised I'm missing some, along with Primula Vialli ( grown from seed, very proud of self, even if there only three of them, now there's only 1! ) It is all such an adventure though isn't it? My beloved Mum was the one who kept me right but we lost her to a reckless car driver at Christmas in 2007. There didn't seem to be anything she didn't know about plants and always kept me right. She must be sitting up there with Dovefromabove's Pa , with her head in her hands thinking ' did I teach her nothing? Now she's introducing new flipping weeds!'  Here she is , although she wasn't often sat down , more like head down, bum up, in the borders!

imageThanks so much, no , I'm afraid T&M haven't offered to replace the seed, This is what they said:

    Dear Lorna Craig,

    Thank you for your email.

We have identified this as being a weed, the common name being 'Fat Hen' - our horticultural experts here have advised that you dig this up before it seeds as it will go all over your garden.

I hope this has been of some help to you.

If there is anything further I can be of assistance with, please get in touch. I'll be happy to help.

    With best regards,

Obviously , it was either in the seed packet, or the compost ( Miracle Gro)  but I doubt it's worth arguing the toss! I'll just try again but maybe this time ,I'll get the seeds elsewhere  image
