Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to do a bit of research about Nandina Domestica - or Heavenly Bamboo as it is also known - before I decide whether I should go for it.
First of all, I heard that it this plant isn't a true bamboo. Is this correct? If so, then it probably invalidates my next question...
Bamboo plants can either be running or non-running (i.e. they do/do not spread underground and pop up throughout the garden). Is Nandina Domestica non-running?
Sorry to sound thick, but I think it's always best to gather as much information about a plant before you jump into anything.

Nandina domestica is not a bamboo at all. Its an evergreen shrub and it is very well behaved in my garden, it does not run at all. I have had one for years and love it! I hack it back when it gets out of bounds and it comes to no harm.

As Ladybird says, it's not bamboo - it just has a bamboo type habit of growth.
It belongs to a completely different family of plants - mainly Barberries, ie Berberis.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Never seen these before but now I must have one, what sort of growth is likely each year?
HI RP32. As I mentioned earlier I keep mine within bounds. It does not produce too much growth each year - maybe a few inches in old money. But Its a great plant.
Should have said that mine is about 5 feet tall!
