Mysterious passionflower death
in Plants
Hi there
I have been growing a passionflower in a pot on a south facing terrace this summer and it was blooming brilliantly until last week. I gave it a drop of fertiliser and then the next day it was wilting and it is just about dead now.
Could it have been the fertiliser? I fertilised other plants at the same time and they have been fine. I was also wondering if it could have been a virus.
If anyone can shed any light on this then it would be much appreciated. I am planning to get another passionflower and I want to be sure I don't kill this one too!
Thanks!

Have you checked the pot for vine weevils? C-shaped white grubs, about 1 cm, with a dark "head"? They will cause this kind of collapse by eating the plant's roots.

Hi Alina
Thank you for your reply. I have just had a good sift through the pot and there is no sign of vine weevils, in fact the roots look healthy. I am wondering now if I should cut it back completely and see what happens
Check for slug damage around the main stems first - they can sometimes strip bark from plants and so kill the top growth.
