growing salsify from seed

Having failed to obtain salsify from any green grocer I am attempting to grow a small crop from a packet of seed.

It seems quite an uncommon vegetable but I am keen to have a go at growing. My space in the garden is quite limited hence I a have bought only one packet.

Any advice on preparing the land etc much appreciated. The packet does say sow around March and harvest around September.
