No rain of any significance in Sheffield since the heatwave started. I'm so glad. My garden has suffered this year. Unlike Verdun the cool and wet weather we had earlier this year has meant that many plants have not thrived and some just gave up the ghost. And of course the wet brought plagues of various pests, crawling and flying, which did a lot of damage, too.
My sunflowers in particular have suffered with some never really developing and others only reaching a third to a half of their expected height before flowering.
Not a total disaster though, there's still some colour and variety in the garden, roses, dahlias, cornflowers, poppies, snapdragons, et al.
Great to hear that everything is back to normal sorry to hear about your sunflowers the wet is none stop here with thunder and lightening causing problems. Loads of pests flying and crawling, daddy long legs, slugs and golden bugs, my slug pellets are kept well at hand at the moment. I am hoping for some sun. Took the day off today to go and learn some dance steps at the local hall and yesterday went for walk and enjoyed the waterfalls over at Plodda Waterfalls and Dog falls you may know them? Do you both go walking or dancing?
15 miles out of Sheffield and we've had two big rains since the heat wave / summer started: enough to keep the water butt from being completely empty thank goodness.
Today we have...grey. It keeps hinting at sunshine but gosh isn't it so much cooler!
Has anyone else noticed now that the weather has cooled down all the birds have returned? My garden is alive with birds today but last week we barely saw any.
The birds are back in force I agree there the swallows are chirping I did unfortunately find four dead little ones two yellow hammers and two baby thrush I buried them all very sad. I put them with my little dog. Other wise yes glad to see the other birds chirping in my Douglas fir. Do you like birds? I like their voices. Very uplifting.
I agree wish the rain would go away they bring out too many slugs and pests. Dancing is good to do. You probably do enough in your garden Soulboy I bet you have a lovely garden? Good to go walking. Today I bought a lovely rose plant in pinks from Marks and Spencer for 50p. Any one else managed to get some reduced plants?

Sadly, gardening and a little walking is the only exercise I get but if I lived in your neck of the woods I'd do a lot more of the latter.

Please no rain this week, let my new drive settle down
No dancing soulboy?
I thought you'd be giving it big spins with a name like that.
