  • Well, it is almost a year ago since I posted my query about growing fennel near other plants and veg and I am happy to report I have not had any andverse affects from growing Foeniculum vulgare Dulce (bulb) near other plants and veg. I have it strategically planted in mix flower beds, next to a grape vine and with in about 18" of some in ground outdoor tomatoes. So, various locations, but nothing to report. Other plants and veg close by have not suffered. I have never grown the herb fennel, so maybe this may have some adverse affect. I have just planted some herb fennel seeds in a tray (late I know) so I can use this great herb in cooking but also carry out my own experiment to see how other plant react near it. I will report on my findings..............watch this space

Nice update, Jane. Not surprised to find you've found no effect

I've been growing Florence Fennel for years in my allotment, normally variety Rondo.

As part of a rotation sytstem its grown in the same beds as beet, spinach and chard.

Never had a problem. With both the Fennel and the adjoining plants.
