Pear Pruning help
in Fruit & veg
Last year my pear tree grew a lot of long green vertical shoots.
This year these shoots (about 100) have turned brown and are
dead. What are they and why did they grow only to die?
Should I have pruned them off last summer?

Yes, the year before I got a tree man to come and prune it. Could you tell me why you asked? Only the long shoots are dead - not the rest of the tree. Thank you for any help.
Thank you very much for your detailed information, Pansyface. I now understand what happened. My husband has just reminded me that we had a new greenhouse put in last year (April) and that the man who did it hacked a part of the pear tree off to make some room. The tree grew the shoots in August - this hacking obviously caused the problem.
