Starting from Scratch

Been living in this house for nearing 4 years now and the garden was so overgrown, for the last 4 years it's just been given the basic TLC until this year. The previous owners had 3 greenhouses (1 with a brick base) that we've had to dismantle and 5 40ft+ conifers that ran down the lower left of the garden, we cut them down and now busy cutting out the rest of the roots - 1 more to go, YAY). I plan to do a country style boarder all along where they were.

We also put a new shed up this week, but because the ground is so uneven it's slightly elevated (see picture below)

Ignore the rubble and tree stumps in front, that's a pile to go to the tip. I'm unsure of what to do with this area? I had thought about a rockery. But I also love these ideas...

But I'm not sure they'd work? I also need to lay new turf along what was a concrete path we've broken up (you can see it to the right of the picture on the right. Could I just lay turf straight on once I've broken up the hardcore? Or would topsoil and grass seed be better?
