Sambucus black lace/elderflower
in Plants
I am a little behind with my GW viewing but I've just watched Monty make elderflower cordial. I have a huge amount of pink flowers on my sambucus black lace and wondered if I could use the same recipe? Also got scary stories about poison from pink flowers on Internet searches.
thank you for any safe instructions.

It's the same species, the internet is full of rubbish and scare stories.

I just did a search and found nothing suggesting they're poisonous, where did you find your articles?
Lots of recipes though.

I'll be interested to see what other people think on this one,

I have one too. Love it. It takes lots of abuse, just cut it back when it gets too big and it is a lovely foil for my favourite rose Mortimer Sackler. Have seen it fronted by Sutton Apricot Foxgloves and it looked beautiful. I'm growing some from seed at the moment (foxgloves that is, not black lace)
Aah - the internet. How did we all manage before it, nut!
Susan - it's important to look carefully when you research anything online. There are lots of weird and wonderful myths and legends there..
I've never heard anyone mention the pink flowers being an issue, but if you're worried, don't use them We have lots of common elders nearby which are covered in flowers every year. I've never thought of using them though. They smell lovely on a sunny day
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
My sambucus black lace has a lurgy so needs a major haircut to see if it will revive.
Elderflower cordial is delicious and I should have though the pink flowers would give a lovely colour.
I've used the berries - picked wild - to make jelly and that's delicious too and full of vitamins for winter.
My Black Lace has just finished flowering, do they smell like elderflowers?
There are many elder bushes where I walk with my dog,I note that some elderflowers smell of wee, others smell wonderful. They look exactly the same but the smell is very different.
