Planting a New Cornus Contraversa Variegata
I have just purchased a Cornus Contraversa Variegata. The tree is approx 1m high and of good shape, however the growth is quite leggy. Should I support this tree to the tip or just give the stem a sturdy support and let it do it's thing.

Hi IngridlucieB you have purchased a beautiful specimen of a tree with Cornus Controversa Variegata. It's also known as the Wedding Cake tree with its branches forming tiers like a wedding cake. As your young tree is just 1 metre tall, I would suggest you support it with a cane to keep it straight for a few years and every year check the ties aren't too tight

I accidentally pressed post twice before sending without finishing by advising you to support the tree to the tip and a foot more and next year get a longer cane until the tree reaches approx 5' should then be sturdy enough to be independent without a support.
Hi ILB. I would not support the tree to its tip but just firmly at its base. The movement of the tree top in the wind stimulates the growth of a strong root system. Here is a link to assist you:
