Identification

hi

I have this plant near my rockery and I have no idea what it is. There seems to be some flowers about to come out of an orange colour. It grew really quick and id like to know it's name and how to look after it. imageimage

It doesn't need looking after, just try to stop it!

  • Thank you hazel and buttercup! I can't wait to see the flowers. At the moment it has space to spread although I'm afraid it will cover the shorter plants around it? Can I move it if it gets too big or trim it!

I have been trying for 30 years to get rid it it from my garden but it still defies me. As long as I keep on top of it (or as I think I do!) I have gracefully ceded defeat.

Dig it up & all the corms or you will be plagued by the blinking things - I hate them with a passion!!

you can certainly move it. But I fear the result will be, as others suggest, crocosmia in 2 places

My clump hasn't spread but after its finished flowering the leaves flop and itlooks a right mess.  I'm wondering whether to dig it up and put into a big pot so I can hide it after flowering. What do you think ?

  • EM you could probably get away with cutting back the leaves after they fade. Youre not supposed to as the brown leaves send the nutrients down for next time, but they are so robust to be honest it would be worth a shot.

Thanks, I'll have a go after flowering.  I'm not that enamoured with them so it wouldn't be the end of the world if I killed them off !
