We've inherited this plant but I've no Idea what it is. Can anyone help?

It looks like contorted hazel, Corylus avellana 'Contorta'. It will become much too large for that pot, it would be better in the ground.
And watch out for any straight suckers, as reversion will leave you with a plain hazelnut tree.
