Is my lawn recoverable?
Hi everyone,
I just wondered if it would be possible to have some advice regarding my lawn. I moved into our new house a year ago and i stupidly let the builders lay the new lawn. Its been laid on ruble no doubt which may be the cause of my issues.
Here is a picture of the current state of the lawn.

As you can see there is a lot of patchy parts, its seems to be mainly white grass that is obviously dead. I have scarified the lawn to try and get it out as well as raking then areating and watering. I have even thrown some fertilizer on to see if it may spring to life but so far no luck. I am really contemplating ripping up the whole lot but it would be a massive job. Does my lawn look bad enough to be ripped up or do you think its recoverable? There are plenty of nice green parts to it as well which is why i am really not sure what to do.
Would be grateful for any advice people may have.
Thanks so much

Try this Tet.
Hi mate thanks for the reply, wouldn't seem to let me edit my post to add an image correctly. Uploaded a new one for you to see. I think you may be right about sorting the underlying soil just think it could be a massive job but hopefully I may be wrong.
thanks again

Thanks mate, originally the whole garden was just grass so I thought I'd make it more of a 'garden' :-) Do you know as soon as I banged in all those fences and laid the stones I thought you know what I wish I made them borders wider!!
I have over seeded the garden as well and a lot of new grass seemed to come through ok. I cut it very low this weekend it was notch 2 on the mower I think mainly to just see if I could clear the horrible white dead grass! Gave it a good water after though and put some summer fertiliser on it so will see how it comes up.
I think I will have to maybe leave it until the end of August now as its warming up and I can't keep watering every night as my water bill will shoot through the roof :-)

It looks a lot better than my lawn which has been there for 30 years and has no rubble under it.
I water my lawn and beds every single night and there is no difference to my water bill, I'm on a meter too.

Wow Tetley, what a great piece of land
Cor, Tetley do you live in a stately home!!! I think the lawn looks fine, I dont feed, water or weed, just mow every 3 days, with 2 dogs (and grandkids) pointless.
Tetely, funny you should say that, we went to an open garden in our village last month, very old (gorgeous) flint cottage, for the local Hospice, it had wild areas, etc AND a train track, running through, my OH said if we win the euromillions, thats what he wants! I like these gardens because, they are natural, the Yellow Garden Scheme are very sniffy about perfection.
