Lawn query

Hi,

I wondered if anybody could tell me if they know what the thicker strands of grass are in amongst my lawn? I don't seem to have many patches of it, it's just growing in amongst the rest of the grass but i not sure if it should really be part of the lawn or not?

I Haveimageimage attached a couple of photos.

Many thanks

Rye grass, which is added to lawn seed mixtures as it's more hard wearing than fescues etc.  The more traffic the lawn gets the more rye grass the better but it's not so good in purely ornamental lawns.  You can always dig out the patches and seed them with a fine-leaved mixture.

    Hi,

thanks for your replies, the following is a breakdown of what my seed contains so I assume one of those is this thicker stuff?

    40% Eurocordus - Perennial ryegrass

    30% Eurosport - Perennial ryegrass

    20% Barcristalla - Perennial ryegrass

    10% Barorlando - Perennial ryegrass

The last two are very dark green types added to provide good colour and the first is a fine-leaved one so it is probably Eurosport which I don't know anything about.  It could also be a wild interloper of course!

Ok thanks, I expect even if I dig it out and re seed there is a good chance it will return at some point:

Would 25mm be a good height to help disguise it a bit or do you think that's a bit low? Or would I be better off keeping it longer?

    Thanks
