    Do you mean Privet hedging?

Can you give more detail about the size of the plants you have and the soil conditions etc., and a picture if possible. image

Privet isn't strictly evergreen anyway, so if you pruned them back quite severely at that time of year, it may simply be that they're struggling to recover, especially if they're immature plants. Weather conditions wherever you are can be a factor too.

Ah - not privet - conifer. You've cut back too far. They won't grow back from dead wood I'm afraid. image

Thanx. They are 6' by 2'. Soil not sure but it looks poor. Do you think some fish blod and bone might help? It is been like that when I moved inn. They looked worse at first but they starting to shoot a bit now after I trim them.

The brown bits won't regrow. You may get new growth 'coming through' from other parts which will hide the dead bits. Best option is to let that happen and leave any trimming till next year. Only ever take the green, newest growth off conifers. From now on, you'll need to have the hedge a little wider to allow for some new growth which you can then keep lightly trimmed. If you cut back too far you get the result you've got there I'm afraid.

October's a bit late for trimming it for the final time before winter too.

A bit of B,F & B will do no harm, but give it a little in spring as well, to promote new growth. image

Kapsv fertiliser won't help sorry fairygirl, the three on the end will dieback fully by next year, you can save the others. Not what you wanted to hear I know but you need to cut your losses and take out the three on the end. You'll be fighting a losing battle.

You're probably right Dave - throwing good money after bad giving them a feed!  image

To be honest kapsv, you'd be better off taking the whole lot out and planting privet...it's much easier to manage and a lot nicer to look at!  image
