Raising plants to sell for local Gardening Club funds

inezhardieinezhardie Posts: 45

So far I have raised £30.00 to add to the £77.00 raised at our stall at the local gala day. Can anyone suggest best ideas for online sales to raise more funds as we need another £300.00 to cover our costs for next years speakers and their travelling expenses.

Any ideas nd suggestions welcome thanks!

I have a problem with several good plants that just do too well here. I hate having to throw them out, but, even in a large garden, am running out of suitable spaces. Have you got any perennials that are doing well and could be split?

Or any nice saleable shrubs to take cuttings from? About now onwards is a good time for many shrub cuttings and some root quite quickly.

Or you could get a cheap houseplant like tradescantia or chlorophytum and get loads of babies from those. If you are likely to continue next year streptocarpus and begonia are good, if you can provide the right care. You can take leaf cutttings, a bit slower, but get a baby growing at every veinimage

Have you got a bay tree? Perhaps you could sell packets of leaves for culinary use. Postage would be cheap too.

I pruned ours the other day and I hated throwing the leaves away especially when you see what they charge in the supermarkets.

    In London. Keen but lazy.

I do - so thanks for that idea.

If you have to post things, it is best to keep them small, light and dry. Do you have access to lavender? You could make lavender bags to ward off moths (not saying it works all the time but you have to try). If you don't grow your own, it is fairly cheap to buy in bulk.

Have you tried using this website to sell plants on?

You might even find new members through it.
