Plant identification
Hello,
My husband was overzealous with cutting back an overgrown tree in our garden that I'd hoped to identify and learn when and how to prune. It's looking rather sorry now unfortunately. Can someone identify it for me and advise how I can make good again? I hope he hasn't done too much damage, it was beautiful 2 days ago. The photo is a bit dark, but he has cut off all the lower branches.

have a look at elaeagnus ebbingei or prunis lusitanica. Those were the first to pop into my head, but as Pansy says, a bit of a close up should help confirm it 100%
I think the Eleagnus is a good shout Hosta. I opened the pic in a separate image which was better. Some of the foliage does look a bit silvery underneath.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I would say Eleagnus - I think it gets little tiny fragrant flowers? I suggest cutting the top back by a foot - straight across to encourage new growth at the bottom.
