Bugs in Wheelie Bin
I've just discovered these small leech / maggot type bugs in my garden waste wheelie bin.
Can anybody identify them and let me know what I should do to get rid of them?
FYI:
- The bin is not being collected for another seven days.
- There are some weeds / soil at the bottom and grass clippings on top. I mowed the lawn yesterday.

Fly maggots from rotting vegetation. Spraying the bin with household fly spray should kill themm. Give it a huge squirt and shut the lid.
After it's emptied I'd chuck in some bleach and boiling water, swish it around with a broom and then hose it out with cold water. Pour the water down the drain - not on your grass.
My green bin from the council is for garden and food waste so I give it a blast with the jet washer after it's emptied.
I'd go with the suggestions above, get it disinfected when it's empty and keep on top of it to prevent further infestations.
Male sure the bin lid is shut tight all the time as flies get in and lay eggs in hot weather.
Thanks all. Really helpful suggestions. I will do all of that!
Garden and food waste in the same bin seems a bit of a strange arrangement. I wonder what they do with it.
It all gets composted together.
Yes B3, Ceres is correct. Meat, bones and everything
I'm never, ever buying council compost
Bet you thought I was being OCD with the jetwash eh?
