Lupine aphids

Once lupines have been infested with aphids, will they regenerate year after year?  I have large lupine plantings too far from water source to spray bugs off and do not wish to use commercial pesticides.  This year I will cut all plants back after seeds mature and can be collected.  However, are aphids perpetuated through the soil?

You could try spraying the lupins with a mixture of washing up liquid and water. This makes the plant slippery so the aphids can't cling on.
