Star Jasmine

Hello.  I'm looking for some advice in relation to the star jasmine growing over my garden fence.  It has started flowering but it appears that many of the flowers are underneath new growth and so are partly obscured.  I managed to take a couple of pictures just before it got too dark.  Sorry, they're still not great.

The first shows where I have cut back some of the new growth and the second shows a section pre-prune with flowers covered.  Any ideas why this might have happened?  Might it be something to do with when I pruned (which I think was March this year)?  Many Thanks.

Mine is the same Racine, I have cut back some of the non flowering shoots today.  Will wait to see what others say.
