climbers
Can anyone help with suggestions for an area at the side of the bungalow that has sun but is damp and even wet at times. This year a good example. We cannot really dig out to any degree and would like a climber. Clematis haven't thrived although a Hydrangea petiolaris a few feet away seems o.k.
Will be a hard ask, I know
Thanks

Why not try Schizophragma hydrangeoides. It will grow like the Hydrangea petiolaris but its flowers are more beautiful. Its the Japanese version of a climbing hydrangea.
Thank you, I know it, but didn' think of it. It does like moist soil, but drainage could be a problem, definitely worth a try that's all you can do.
Not sure what you have for it to climb on David, but have you tried Honeysuckle? They're better scrambling up and over something as opposed to on a trellis on a wall but should be perfectly happy with the damp ground. It prevents them getting mildew, and they need a fair bit of moisture to flower well.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Thank you, yes there is a frame work to climb and it is quite an airy spot at the house corner, just damp. Yes honeysuckles do thrive in all sorts of spots, in the wild too, of course.
