Pruning roses help

Hello,

I have moved to a property with a pretty white climbing / rambling rose along a 6ft fence at the back of the garden. I'm not sure of the variety, but something similar to the iceberg rose.

It flowered beautifully and abundantly in June and has since finished flowering. It has grown over a foot above the fence and I'd like to trim it back to fence height or shorter but don't know if this will be a too severe pruning? Also is this the right time to do such a thing or should I just dead head? Help please!

Ripaul, ramblers and climbers are pruned at different times of the year and in different ways so unless without a couple of pictures it's difficult to advise you correctly .

Hi ripaul. I would suggest you just dead head for now and prune back to where you want the rose to be in Spring. Would it be possible to take the long top growth and move it down so that it is growing more sideways along the fence?

This is the rose I am enquiring about. I was wondering if it is ok to prune back to fence height or just deadhead for now and prune back later in the year?
