Lupin petals dropping off?

Hello ????! Big newbie here! I have just bought my first lupin (from Gardeners World show!), potted it and new shoots are coming up, however... the petals are dropping off the main flower ????.  Is this a normal occurence? Have I done something wrong?? Please help
