  • This morning I saw a tit fly out of the nest box for Gt Tits that we put up on the ash tree trunk a year ago.  It was too quick for me to see if it was indeed a Gt Tit.  I wonder whether it's been lodging in there overnight, or prospecting for spring ... ?

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • They probably roost there overnight. My daughter put out some cat and dog combings a week or two back, as  she'd seen the blue tits collecting sheeps' wool to  put in their hole in the sycamore tree, where they always nest.
  • I’ve been repotting pelargonium cuttings by the kitchen window. It was very nice to see so many birds in the garden: blackbirds, starlings, robins, chaffinch, wren, goldfinches, blue tits, sparrows and even a blackcap. I used to get long tailed tits, but I haven’t seen those since I moved to this house.

Yesterday in Tesco they were giving out  free carrots for Rudolf.  I broke it into three and Princess Tippytoes(as we call our deer) had it last night.  The foxes had a nice lamb bone.  The cat bought me a present at 4.30 this morning, then ate it.  He's decided xmas tree water is nice to drink, I suppose its one up on the pond water.  Meanwhile his mum had got xmas presents for him at home.  We had three jays on the lawn eating crushed peanuts.    Happy Christmas everyone.
