Pear Tree leaves

GardenerJames says:

What is causing the little spot on the leaves and what caused the outsides of the leaves to go black.

Will it cause long lasting harm to the little pear tree?  Is there something I should be doing about this?  If so, what?

Pear rust and there's a lot of it about this year.  Pick off all affected leaves and burn them or put them in your black rubbish bin.  See the RHS advice for more info.:

  • Thank you for that.

Ill check my my little tree again. I'm concerned that this might have done for almost all my leaves and therefore the tree form this year if I end up taking most of the leaves off. Either way I dont think I'll have any fruit from it  ?

All 4 of my young pear trees are badly affected James and one has it on every leaf like yours.  On that tree, I'm going to try using scissors to cut the affected part of each leaf off (if the spots are near the tip) and will remove the whole leaf if the spots are near the base.  That way there will at least be some leaf area left.  It's important to remove them before the underneath starts producing a lumpy growth as it is that which releases more spores.

As I have no young pears growing, I'm tempted to also spray with a fungicide although those shouldn't be used on edible crops but I would hope the chemicals would be gone by next spring..

Well the tree is now nearly bald. I guess we'll have to wait and see what's happens.
